Baker Tilly Mooney Moore - Jonathan McCluskey, ACCA Affiliate, University of Ulster Graduate
After graduating from the University of Ulster at Jordanstown with a BA Honours in Accountancy, I joined Baker Tilly Mooney Moore in 2007. I was attracted to the Graduate Programme for a number of reasons; I knew I would gain experience across a range of specialisms, being part of an international alliance was very appealing and I was keen to work in a medium sized practice. Also, the Graduate Training Programme, study support package and exam success rates had a great reputation.
Since joining the firm I have been given the opportunity to gain experience working on various external audits and accounting assignments for a wide range of clients including charities, limited companies, partnerships, sole traders and group companies. These assignments involve working on my own or as part of a team.
I decided to study for the ACCA qualification and actually gained exemptions from nine exams because of my degree. I attended classes at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, but also found the development of online tutorials a great help when revising for my exams.
As the firm is part of an international network there are opportunities for staff to be seconded to other Baker Tilly offices. These opportunities are not solely limited to Ireland and with an internationally recognised qualification, such as ACCA, you have the opportunity to advance your career by working internationally for Baker Tilly offices in Australia, Singapore and the USA to name a few. The opportunities are endless!
